Those of you who have any consciousness about the food you supply to your family will no doubt be getting to the point where absolutely nothing is healthy anymore! We have an obesity epidemic in society, and there is no doubt that it is the change over time in our food that is the main cause. Diabetes has increased from 2% to 4% of the population from 1988 to 2008, Asthma affects 10% of the population, and the sad part is that rates of both these diseases are high amongst children.
If you are like me, you want your family to stay healthy. Bad health causes so many psychological and practical problems, it is to be avoided at all costs. Regrettably, many do not treat it with the seriousness it deserves. There is wide consensus that health is deteriorating, and it is not just an aging population or it wouldn't affect our children.
From my research, there are only a few factors which could cause this situation. The first is lack of exercise, as proper exercise increases metabolism, and helps us process our nutrition. It has all sorts of benefits with our hormones too.
The second is obviously what we eat. This is where it gets incredible complicated. My motivation for this article is the age old controversy of milk. I like milk and find it hard to give it up all together. This led me on a journey to find a substitute. I tried Soy Milk, but it left me with bloating. Then I read "Milk Wars" and the stuff on Soy and decided Soy was not for me. I moved onto Rice milk for a while. It is OK, but it is rather sugary. For taste I decided to try Almond Milk. Definitely a tastier alternative.
Next, is the extras we ingest through breathing, drinking eating and just plain hanging around. It is becoming more obvious that if we ignore getting poisons out of our bodies, they cause long term damage, ageing and illness.
I Was Alarmed
Last night my partner pointed out on the label that our Almond Milk contains Organic Agave Syrup. I had been looking for sugar, so I missed this one. Coupled with this was a recent Catalyst TV program pointing out the dangers of too much Fructose. On investigation, you wouldn't feed your family Agave. If you really want to sweeten your food try Stevia, honey, rice or raw sugar. Even the use of these depends on your situation and what kind of food you're adding it to.
There is an almond milk that uses rice for sweetening, so we are going to try that next.
Nutrition experts are now telling us that to remain thin we should avoid all processed and junk foods, even the so called healthy alternatives! Reading the labels helps a bit, but with Four Corners exposing Dioxin in just about everything due to aerial spraying of contaminated Chinese chemicals, all we can do is minimise our intake of toxins.
The best you can do is to eat as much raw, preferably organic, food as possible. Drink filtered water from a filter that removes heavy metals at least. Exercise 3-4 times a week to keep your lymph glands moving. That's what I do and after a poor start to life, I am in great condition and health.
